One of Wick's biggest teddy bears sits quietly in the corner. He was originally in Fred Shearer's clothing shop as an advert for Bear brand stockings. Children of the town loved to give a hug while passing through the shop.
Skating, both roller and ice were favourite pastimes. A roller skating rink existed at the top of Oag Lane, while in winter with the Wick River frozen over ice skaters would enjoy a day's fun.
One of the first football teams to fly to a match was a Wick Select team which flew to Kirkwall in Orkney. These heavy brown leather football boots weighted about 500g each and could be twice that in wet weather.
