Alan McIvor delves into some of the murkier annals of Caithness history to reveal tales of smuggling and illicit distilling – activities that invariably took place in secrecy, under the cover of darkness, often in out-of-the-way spots, in the hope of evading the watchful gaze of the exciseman. As Alan points out: “The number of small natural harbours and inlets around the coast was a great attraction for those dealing in contraband.”
Alan is best known for his voluntary work on behalf of Thurso Heritage Society.
