The Diligent

The Diligent

The Diligent was built by George Simpson, North End, Stroma at a cost £18 12s 0d. The design was ahead of her times and the 12+1 strokes instead of the usual 12 gave her a big head and a hefty draught. Launched 9th July 1912 it has had a succession of different owners.

  • The Millers of Keiss (8 February 1939) Changed her name to LUPIN (26 May 1939).
  • Walter & Angus Manson, Philips Harbour, Mey, (17 Sept 1947) Renamed DILIGENT.
  • Donald Smith Wares & Davy Crowe, Rose Cottage, Thurso (17 November 1948)
  • Donald Smith Wares (son) & Malcolm Simpson (28 Feb 1958).
  • Davy Wares, Huna (26 July 1973).
  • Donald Newlands, Wick (21 April 1980).
  • Sandy Gunn (14 ….1984).  Register Closed.
  • Peter Sinclair, Keiss.
  • Brian & Ronnie Sinclair, Elie (4 Nov 1988-2014).  Register re-opened.
  • The Diligent was given to Wick Society (Boat Section) 2014.
